Fostering STEM Online Media Literacy: Identifying High-Quality Resources for Youth

Session I:  Fostering STEM Online Media Literacy: Identifying High-Quality Resources for Youth

This was a poster session that showed new tools (rubric, controlled vocabulary) for identifying high-quality STEM online resources for middle school grades and usage tips for various contexts.

iEngage with iPads: Engaging All Students, All the Time

As I blogged earlier, one of my favorites parts of the conference are student showcases. Today they had a two hour event titled, "iEngage with iPads: Engaging All Students, All the Time"

I was able to visit with sixth grade students as they demonstrated how they use the iPad to create projects, reflect on learning, and read interactive iBooks.

Conference Kickoff- Global Student Showcases

The student showcases are one of my favorite parts of the convention.  Students come from all over the world and present what they are doing in their schools using technology.  I am always so impressed at their professionalism, the knowledge they possess and how they all speak English, no matter what country they are from.

My favorite books today were:

Revolutionizing the Library Using Web Applications

Today is the first day of the pre-conference and kickoff.  I attended a paid session titled,   "Librarians on the Loose: Revolutionizing the Library Using Web Applications" session lead by Jim Holland, an Instructional Technology Specialist from the Arlington ISD. I have attended a training by Jim before for Google Earth.  You can visit his website, "Curriculum Magic" to see his books on Google Earth. He also has links for Google Earth, GPS and Geocaching.

The class description was:  To learn how to use free and simple web tools to market, motivate, integrate, and revolutionize by creating book walls, posters, trailers, recommendations, and more!

Copyright Evaluators- Very Nice

I actually found this resource before going to the convention while I was checking out some blogs by presenters. This one includes resources to check and see if materials are copyright.  I thought they were some pretty handle tools.  It takes you through a series of questions. You answer determines the next question which determines the likeliness that the material is copyright protected.
